Writing Prompts: January 2023 Monthly Theme

A writing resource word bank of writing prompts appropriate for a theme to start off this new year.

One of my favorite storylines suitable for the season of winter is the famous television show called Game of Thrones from the series of books written by George R.R. Martin, A Song of Ice and Fire. Out of the many characters, Jon Snow is chosen to represent Ice and Daenerys Targaryen for Fire, of course. These two are my all-time favorite characters with their backgrounds covering much of the lands throughout Westeros. The words revolve around them on their journeys and challenges in the land. Feel free to use as many or as little of the words. They are simply listed here for inspiration to add some pizzazz in any of your writing pieces whether it be a rhythmic poem, dashing flash fiction short, or a fantasy in a far away island fit for royalty. The choice is yours.

A brief background

SPOILER ALERT - Towards the beginning of the TV series, Jon Snow earns his knightly stripes while at the Night's Watch after saving the Commander's life. As a token of appreciation for still being alive, Snow was gifted the honor of receiving a large Valerian Steel Sword. His oversized coat resembles a crow being covered in black feathers in the arctic-like weather. Later on, he becomes the King of the North as he fights battle after battle to help he and his people protect the Wall and take back his first home, Winterfell.

On the other side of the Narrow Sea, Daenerys gets away from her abusive brother by being sold to a savage tribe leader of the Dothraki. She is wed into the position of Kahleesi to then become the Mother of Dragons after hatching her dragon eggs. Her dragonlings become the greatest threat to the seven kingdoms of Westeros as they quickly grow and assist her in freeing enslaved soldiers and village people in many cities. Her following grows determined to keep her as Queen as they make their way to King's Landing. Some of the most gruesome battles in the seasons involve the dragons with Daenerys riding atop Drogon charging in with her one word command that gets them setting things up in flame: "Dracarys". There are so many elements of her character to pick from along with her pets to incorporate into any story.

Plus, who wouldn't like to add a dragon to their writing piece, right?!
