My journey getting back to writing.

Being a professional writer has its hurdles like other hobbies or employment positions. I’ve been battling this since I started journaling to the point of filling up multiple spiral notebooks and reading my writing aloud to friends and family members. There are common myths that people still follow in idea about how to determine if a writer or author is accomplished and validated proven to be archaic and unfit for how our modernized times are now. Take a look at my journey using my pen and a computer with my list of accomplishments while combating criticisms.

Writing Expedition

Having a poetry blog wasn’t enough since I had just started and didn’t have a year’s worth of content.

So...

I wrote more traditional and modern haikus to fill up the collection online.

Having multiple blog posts still did not satisfy the quantity expectations.

So...

I made another blog post of inspirational quotations to keep myself and others motivated.

Having my writing in multiple areas in various styles for a diverse audience including collaboration projects wasn’t good enough because they said that I still need my own home site.

So...

I put in many hours trying to construct my website until successfully filling up the landing page and creating sections to showcase my varied styles of writing in different categories. Plus, I incorporated additional writing throughout my Discord Writing Groups.

Having a website wasn’t enough for those that mentioned all of my writing was all over the place.

So...

I integrated and centralized most of my main blogger and social media pages onto my website for ease of access.

Having a consistent, informative page used as a resource wasn’t and still isn’t good enough because it isn’t considered a nonprofit.

So...

This year, I began doing more community awareness projects posting flyers in a park and local businesses as well as sharing printouts of my articles to others including the homeless.

Having 4 years of consistency and loads of content isn’t good enough as a writer to be considered an author even though all electronic content is considered published including the publish button that I have to press with each Blog Post / Article / Essay that I have written.

So...

I have totaled up most of my original writing pieces that are already published for the public online. There is about 160 in one area, over 100 in another area, 130 articles of all kinds on my website, over 400 Instagram posts, and many more spread throughout social media as well in these past 4 years.

Having my writing published through a University program onto an electronic Newsletter while acting as Editor isn’t a strong recognizable achievement due to no history or continuity.

So...

I provided more gardening advice and resources for the community to help make our areas greener in small and large ways as well as our overall horticultural knowledge.

Having articles printed and posted in a few areas around the community isn’t enough to be considered resourceful or as an established writer to critics.

So...

I have increased the amount of printouts and am exploring other avenues for publishing more of my original content while answering common questions my community has.

While criticism is useful when constructive, destructive criticism, seen as negative behavior, can cause detrimental consequences on a person’s reputation. However, I have still managed to gain positive publicity on my printed and typed words from smaller circles and groups. Combating these negative rumors has been an ongoing success for me as I continue to push on. With each year, my original content gets better and more creatively expressed.
