Having a Sense of Self Writing Prompts

It has been a while since I wrote prompts. With how the world is going right now, stopping in the middle of my tracks while walking what seems like endless blocks of sidewalks with no clue where I am going, made me think about the movie Alice in Wonderland. Most of her time was spent trying to follow the tracks of the white rabbit while the Cheshire cat pointed her in directions that ended up testing her patience along with other things about herself. Let's put our creative writing skills to the test and see what characters we can create with lessons that teach us more about ourselves. Or in an indirect perspective, what Alice discovers about herself.

  • Self-belief can be reinforced with a simple practice such as creating a proclamation to review daily. It can be short as a few sentences or as long as a full page. Write a declaration encouraging something that you need more of whether it's a boost in self-esteem, increased strength, some motivation, or anything else you would like.

  • The Mad Hatter received his nickname based on his profession of creating hats. Create a wild character detailing not just the name, but also what he or she wears and behavior. Choose a specialized hobby or profession and have something magical occur to a favorite item.

  • Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, going long or jollying tum, one goes left and the other right, but then in circles, end in a fight... Finish the rhyming poem with another stanza creating a funny scene that unintentionally helps Alice discover something on her shoe.

  • The Queen of Hearts' tiny self had a bountiful voice that echoed throughout the forest while she was angry. If the cards couldn't get things done correctly, "Off with their heads," she'd yell. Create a scene of 50 words including this quote with anger as the focus.

  • A demanding colorful insect, the Caterpillar, on a mushroom in the forest persistently asks Alice, "Who are you?" Each time she would answer, he would continue asking her the same question over and over again. So, the questions will get passed on to you - Who do you think you are? Write a paragraph describing your qualities, belief system, experiences, etc.

Happy Writing!
