Some of the things mentioned before, during, or after a sexual violence encounter can seem daunting and downright outrageous. They can be said by a Rapist, Sex Offender, Pedophile, Sex Trafficker, or anyone else that commits a sexually violent act against another human being. Their words may even make you want to scratch at your head trying to figure out what made them say them in the first place. Here is a look at 5 common phrases used by a Sexual Assault Abuser:
1. "I want your vagina."
Having complete disregard for my rights and the sex offenders only stating what they want. They will always be selfish and could care less about what a victim's wants or needs are including the health of their vagina or other genitalia for another gender.
2. "I love you."
The confusion of lust and love has been proven to be scrambled within the brains of sex offenders that it can be difficult for them to understand that there is a distinct difference. But nonetheless, there still is a huge apparent difference that is recognizable by definition when going back to the basics.
3. "Someone else made me do it."
The classic finger-pointing at other people when caught doing something wrong is very immature. It's usually seen being done by children when first learning how to play fairly within a social situation. Everyone knows that they should be taking responsibility for their own actions when they inflict harm upon another person. Unfortunately, the wrongdoer usually points the finger at the victim immediately to deflect and excuse their own abusive behavior.
4. "She's a prostitute."
People who know me and have heard this expression will never believe it because that title will never mesh with my life philosophy. It is impossible for me to be a prostitute because I have always said the word, "No!" And during the times that I wasn't able to say anything, I fought back in more ways than one. This is just another thing Sex Traffickers mention because they view victims as nothing but money. All they see are dollar signs.
5. "She's a slut so she is asking for it."
A slut is a term used for a woman that people deem to sleep around with many sexual partners by choice. It's also commonly used as an excuse when a rapist wants to try and counterargue that a female victim consented. Of course, this is an inaccurate statement because any sexual assault event is considered non-consensual. That is what makes it called rape in the first place.
If unsure how to respond to an attacker in these kinds of situations, it's best to just walk away and hold your head high. If you cannot resist and choose to fight back, #defendyourself with the truth by speaking up. Either way, try to #besafe.
