Frustrating IRS Trips

A blog post about my personal experience.

Went back today to the IRS office this morning that is much further away than the one in my city since it was closed down. Even though I was running on time, I still felt like something would occur to end up making me late. But I was still determined to go as I had to schedule for this appointment twice. The annoying part of the appointment making process is that, according to their rules, you can only go in person to make the appointment. They give you a flier with a different phone number to call so you leave and then make the appointment. The security guard will not let you into the doors. Well, he didn't let me through. Only those who have an appointment hold the golden ticket to get into the IRS fortress.

This doesn't make any sense because when I finally got in there, no tax payers were in the office. The desks had people just sitting or standing at their desks with the security guard that I had already seen twice and a Homeland Security Officer there. When I first got to walk in through the doors, security had found mace in my purse that I forgot to remove. They said that I couldn't leave it outside of the doors on the floor. They refused to hold it for me so that way I could have it for protection after I leave. They just told me that I had to leave and get rid of it before I could get back in. They were focusing on me being late for my appointment in which I couldn't get in through the doors the day before for that reason after being abused. There's no excuses for rape victims apparently.

So I left my mase with my keys in the women’s bathrooms since I had keys attached to it so I could come back for it. I kept it out of view so no one would steal my things and then went back to my appointment because they were going to tell me that I was late again now that I had to leave again. When I returned, low and behold…I was right. The security guard mentioned that I was a little late. The Homeland Security Officer was no longer in the office anymore. So I got patted down and went to see the IRS worker. It was so quiet and a bit awkward. After informing the employee that my identity had been stolen last year, I asked him to file a report for me. Actually, it was way before last year since I had to replace my social security card and birth certificate years before that as well.

He informed me that they don’t do that and asked me if I needed help with something else. I had to ask him repeatedly to look into my account since I couldn’t access it online and had no luck over the past couple of years trying to reach them via phone or online. After he checked my record, he said that my taxes had already been filed last year and asked me what was the problem. I had to tell him repeatedly that I didn’t file my taxes and that my personal identification documents had been repeatedly stolen.
