A Free Verse Poem featuring a minor strain of racism.
This piece is fiction.

She was excited to see him
with her love-filled eyes
darting directly at him
through the vast crowd.
Her brisk pace suddenly slowed
and her smile turned straight
for she had seen him
congratulate each one
passing in the opposing line,
zigzagging across the field,
his team won the game
so then why skip one.
His serious expression
with his stern stance
and fingers tightly balled
was quick at a glance
and transformed instantly
as his position switched
to the next one.
Without knowing and
can’t help with examining
that one person looked
a few shades darker.
“What’s wrong with you,”
she confronts his greeting.
“Huh? What do you mean?
Aren’t you happy to see me?”
“Why’d you treat that
one guy differently? I saw it.”
“It’s nothing.
Didn’t mean anything.
Don’t worry about it.
Why be so concerned?”
“Your actions seem suspicious
and behavior out of place.
You’re friendly with everyone.
Well, what is it?
Spill it already!”
“Geez woman, it’s simple.
He had no business
being at that game.
You can’t go showing
those kinds of people
that they’re welcome
to this realm of sports.
He needed to know just that.
He’s not wanted here.”
“Well, on that note
I’ve got something for you.”
She stomped his foot
and smacked his cheek
and then went on her way
towards the exit.
"Jerk!"
